We are having some delays in setting up our Just Giving page so unfortunately it is not yet possible to sponsor us. Please visit again soon for the link to Just Giving - thank you.
Two Wivenhoe residents connected to the University of Essex through work and study are soon to set off on an interesting honeymoon of overland travel and volunteering work.
Sarah McCaskey and Bob Mehew will spend their honeymoon on the road. They plan to travel overland by train and bus from Wivenhoe to India via Europe, Poland, Russia, China, Siberia, Tibet and Nepal. Once they arrive in Southern India they will spend some time volunteering at The Russ Foundation near Madurai in Tamil Nadu.
The Russ Foundation project initially formed to provide a home for children who are parentless or disadvantaged. It has grown immensely since 1993 and has become a focus for the community it serves; through training workshops it aims to revive the skills of the area and provide some craft employment for local women; through its Community Action Programme, the foundation helps to alleviate some of the problems which result from isolation and community neglect, bringing alternative livelihoods, health care and education to an otherwise poorly developed area.
The ongoing development and success of this grassroots organisation is always dependent upon available funds and volunteers such as Sarah and Bob. If you wish to sponsor them on this trip your contribution would be welcomed
